Chinese export porcelain.

Plate decorated in Famille rose enamels (diameter: 22,7cm).
Qianlong period, circa 1740.

The scene represented is the well known "Meeting of the four doctors" after an original by Cornelis Pronk, the Dutch 18th Century artist who was commissioned by the V.O.C. to paint a number of scenes that were then sent to China to be reproduced on porcelain. The enterprise proved too costly and was abandoned after 1740.
